VERIFICATION OF BERNOULLI’S THEOREM

DESCRIPTION:-
The 'J. P. T. I.' unit consists of a rectangular transparent flow section through which water is to be flown the velocity of water is changes as cross sectional area of channel changes. The changes of head can be measured with manometric tube connected at various sockets, along with the length of channel. Thus the Bernoulli’s theorem can be verified by calculating the energy & head of water at different section.

FLOW OVER NOTCHES APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION:-
The 'J. P. T. I.' unit consists of Notches or Weirs allow hydrologists and engineers a simple method of measuring the coefficient of Discharge in small to medium-sized streams, or in industrial discharge locations.
The apparatus is used to calibrate the following types of notches:-
• Rectangular Notch
• Triangular Notch

FEATURES:-
A flow control valve permits variation of flow rate through the circuit. Open flow channel ensures smooth flow of water. Channel has arrangement to replace different types of notches through simple bolting arrangement

RANGE OF EXPERIMENT:-
The objectives of this experiment are Determine the coefficient of discharge of the given external flow measuring notches for different rates of flow.

IMPACT OF JET APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION:-
The 'J. P. T. I.' unit consists of a plate, placed in the path of a liquid jet, experiences a force on it. This force can be calculated from the impulse-momentum equation, which is based on Newton’s Second Law of Motion: “The algebraic sum of external forces applied to control volume of fluid in any direction is equal to the rate of change of momentum in that direction”.

FEATURES:-
The set-up consists of a sump tank with centrifugal pump to circulate water. A chamber with one side acrylics is provided for visualization of impact of jet on vanes. Water from sump tank flows through a nozzle and strikes vertically the vane positioned above the nozzle. Arrangement is made for the movement of the plate of the vane under the action of the jet and also because of the weight placed on the loading hanger. Measuring tank and stop watch is provided for flow measurement.

RANGE OF EXPERIMENT:-
• To study the force exerted by a liquid jet impact on a Plane/Inclined/Curved surfaces.

LOSSES IN PIPE FITTING APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION:-
The 'J. P. T. I.' unit consists of Major and minor losses associated with pipe flow in piping networks helps in determining the pumping power requirements, material and fittings selection. A good understanding of such losses helps engineers in designing optimum fluid distribution systems, process plants etc. This apparatus is designed to introduce students to minor flow losses (Fittings) in Pipes. The following types of pipe fittings are generally provided with the apparatus:-
• Elbow
• Bend
• Sudden Expansion
• Sudden Contraction

FEATURES:-
A flow control valve permits variation of flow rate through the circuit. Pressure tapings are incorporated so that the head loss characteristics of each fitting may be measured. These tapings are connected to a manometer bank incorporating a manifold with air bleed valve. The circuit and manometer are attached to a support framework

RANGE OF EXPERIMENT:-
• To study the losses of head due to various fittings in pipelines.

METACENTRIC HEIGHT APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION:-
The 'J. P. T. I.' unit consists of a small tank. Water is poured in it; so that a small ship model can float over it .The ship model is provided with a horizontal guide bar over which a small weight can be slided. Displacement of weight is measured with a scale. A pointer is attached at the centre of ship. When the weight is slide the ship tilts. The angle of tilt is measured by displacement of pointer & from then the metacentric height of ship can be studied.

REYNOLDS APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION:-
The 'J. P. T. I.' unit consists of to study different flow conditions and to obtain the Reynolds number in different flow conditions.

FEATURES:-
Apparatus consist of storage cum supply tank, which has the provision for supplying coloured dye through jet. A Perspex tube is provided to visualize the different flow condition. The entry of water in Perspex tube is through elliptical bell mouth to have smooth flow at the entry. A regulating valve is provided on the downstream side of the tube to regulate the flow. The discharge must be varied very gradually from a smaller to larger value. A collecting tank is used to find the actual discharge through the Perspex tube.
